UCLA roommate
I first got to really know Janine when we roomed together during my senior year at UCLA. The longer I've known J, the more my respect and admiration for her has grown by leaps and bounds. Janine quietly serves others in hospitality, generosity, and loyalty without taking any credit. For example, when we lived together, J always woke up early (6 a.m.!) and would quite often bake chocolate chip cookies or brownies for the roommates so that we would awaken to a delicious aroma...and, for Debra and me, cookies for breakfast. =) J doesn't even particularly like chocolate, but she did it for us...just because. Now she and Gary open up their home regularly to us roommates, providing a place for our reunions, serving us with hospitality.
J is also aptly named "Doc" because she is the trend-setter and decision-maker among us dwarfs (not everyone is so aptly named!). For example, J has been the ringleader in making sure that all of us roommates stay in touch with one another. After college, when I moved to the east coast and Irene moved up north, Janine was the one who kept us informed of how everyone else was doing, and she never failed to coordinate a time for us to meet when we were all home again. In reality, my enduring friendships with many of the UCLA folk are directly attributable to Janine's fine efforts. She is also the most organized person you will ever meet, and it's a good thing she sets the trends for us, because all of us who follow benefit from her wisdom and diligence. That has been clearly the case with wedding planning! (Thank you, Janine!) Really, thank you, Janine, for ALL that you are!
